Comfort Zone Camp
Volunteer, Big Buddy
Comfort Zone Camp is a nonprofit bereavement organization that transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. The programs are free of charge and include confidence building activities and age-based support groups that break the emotional isolation grief often brings.
Comfort Zone’s programs are offered to children ages 7-17, young adults for 18-25-year-olds, and separate parent and guardian programs. Held year-round across the country, the primary locations are California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Virginia (HQ). CZC also partners with organizations to serve their local or specific communities through their Partnership and Community by Design Programs.
At CZC, each child is paired one-to-one with a Big Buddy volunteer based on the same gender, interests and hobbies. Big Buddies serve as the child’s role model, mentor and anchor for the weekend and take part in all aspects of camp alongside their camper, or Little Buddy.
Big and Little Buddies eat meals together, play games and participate in Healing Circles, which are support groups led by licensed therapists. The Big Buddy role is the most intensive volunteer role, but often the most rewarding. Big Buddies must simply know how to listen, be supportive and have fun!
New York Cares
Volunteer
New York is full of good apples. And being part of New York Cares means you are part of something bigger.
We are building a community that looks out for one another, making connections and friendships through service.
New York Cares began with a coat drive. And it’s still a critical initiative today. But we cover so much more. We connect all kinds of people with all kinds of service opportunities, empowering individuals to enact positive change in ways that resonate with them. And we work closely with communities to truly understand what they need, who they need, and how much they need to make a real difference. We’re not just a band aid. We’re a band of believers in transformative, culture-shifting action.
Look closer and you’ll discover New York Cares is a movement to help those who need us most. A movement to create positive change one interaction, one New Yorker, at a time. We all have something to offer the city we love. If you believe this too, you belong with us.

From Tragedy To Transformation
Sandy Hook Promise is a national nonprofit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Based in Newtown, Connecticut, our intent is to honor all victims of gun violence by turning our tragedy into a moment of transformation. By empowering youth to “know the signs” and uniting all people who value the protection of children, we can take meaningful actions in schools, homes, and communities to prevent gun violence and stop the tragic loss of life.
